STAY ON THE TRAIL

Please stay on trails and make sure you know their designated use. Refrain from accessing creeks where you will increase erosion.

PACK IT IN; PACK IT OUT

Most of our trailheads do not have trash facilities. Please be prepared to pack out all of your trash from the trail and trailhead.

GO BEFORE YOU GO

Bury human waste 6-8 inches deep. All toilet paper and wipes must be packed out. There is a restroom at Alturas Lake Trailhead.

Description

There are several hikes from Alturas Lake. The trails generally have more gentle climbs and follow the creeks that feed Alturas Lake. Some of the trails from Alturas can be biked. Remember bikes can not enter wilderness. Hiking or biking Eureka Gulch, Jake’s Gulch or up towards the Mattingly Divide are all options. Some of these trails are also open for motorized use. Know what trails are open to what modes of travel before you head out! Some trails will eventually enter wilderness.
