SIHA's Oral History Series scheduled!
The Sawtooth Interpretive & Historical Association and Stanley Community Library invite you to join us for another oral history series during the quiet season. Since the 1980s, SIHA has been conducting oral history interviews to capture the lives and experiences of folks connected to the Sawtooths. Dedicated board members have been reviewing and editing these video interviews to share with the public. Once a video is unveiled at the Library we add it, and the unedited version copy, to our YouTube channel. Below you will find a list of program dates and subjects for the 2025/2026 winter season. The Stanley Library makes these programs available to stream live via Zoom and the link can be found on the Library’s events page.
On October 23rd, we are lucky enough to share a recent interview (2022) with Bill Platts. Now in his 90s, Bill is a world record holding athlete competing in the World Masters Athletics Championships. He has a PhD in Wildlife Management and worked as a fisheries biologist, retiring from the Forest Service in 1988. Bill first visited the upper Salmon River in 1940. Later he surveyed all the high altitude lakes in the White Clouds, Pioneers, and most of the Sawtooths and became a salmon advocate. Bill is also known for naming a number of the lakes in the White Clouds, using the “geomorphic setting” to inform their names.
