Know before you go!

STAY ON THE TRAIL

Please don’t cut switchbacks! It causes erosion, destroys vegetation, and ruins the trail. This trail has many switchbacks, please use them!

PACK IT IN; PACK IT OUT

Most of our trailheads do not have trash facilities. Please be prepared to pack out all of your trash from the trail and trailhead.

WILDERNESS

This trail enters wilderness. You need a free wilderness permit which can be picked up on the trail. Make sure you are aware of all the wilderness regulations.

Round trip: up to 6 miles

Elevation gain: 400 ft

Description

There are several hikes from Alturas Lake. The Alpine Creek Trail follows Alpine Creek for about 3 miles. This is often a good trail to see wildflowers. There are many spots to take a break alongside the creek and total elevation gain is less than 500 feet. You can make this hike as long or as short as you would like. Beyond 3 miles from the trailhead the trail is not maintained and can be difficult to follow.
